Did you know that “Luna mendax”, that is, “the moon is a liar”?
How come, you ask.
In Latin, “Crescens” means “increasing” and “Decrescens” means decreasing.
A Crescent moon is shaped like the letter C, but in that case the moon is decreasing, not increasing. And when the moon is shaped like the letter D, hence “Decrescens”, it is actually increasing. So, you see, the moon is a liar.
